Dear Illinois Law Students:

The Illinois Judicial Council (“IJC”), founded in 1983, is an organization comprised primarily, but not exclusively of African American judges and hearing officers. It has dedicated itself to bridging the gap between the judiciary and the community through educational dialogues regarding the legal system.

Since 1999, the Illinois Judicial Council Foundation (“IJCF”), our not-for profit entity, has funded numerous scholarships, totaling in excess of $100,000.00, to primarily minority law school students throughout Illinois. The IJC Scholarship Committee uses the following criteria for awarding multiple $4000 scholarships and one (1) $5000 scholarship: (1) proven ability to overcome obstacles; (2) financial need; (3) community involvement; (4) application materials; (5) academic achievement; and (6) a personal interview.

Interested applicants can access an electronic copy of the application packet at or by sending an email request to [email protected]. The deadline for the application is June 7, 2019.

Interviews will be tentatively held between June 17, 2019, and June 28, 2019. Completed applications and any questions should be directed to
[email protected].

Very truly yours,
Justice Shelvin Louise Marie Hall
Chair, IJC Scholarship Committee
