Dear Illinois Law Students:

The Illinois Judicial Council (“IJC”), founded in 1983, is an organization comprised primarily, but not exclusively of African American judges and hearing officers. It has dedicated itself to bridging the gap between the judiciary and the community through educational dialogues regarding the legal system.

Since 1999, the Illinois Judicial Council Foundation (“IJCF”), our not-for profit entity, has funded numerous scholarships, totaling in excess of $100,000.00, to primarily minority law school students throughout Illinois. The IJC Scholarship Committee uses the following criteria for awarding multiple scholarships: (1) proven ability to overcome obstacles; (2) financial need; (3) community involvement; (4) application materials; and (5) academic achievement.

Interested applicants can access an electronic copy of the application packet at www.illinoisjudicialcouncil.org or by sending an email request to scholarship@illinoisjudicialcouncil.org. The deadline for the application is August 20, 2020.

Completed applications and any questions should be directed to scholarship@illinoisjudicialcouncil.org or dgivhan@illinoiscourts.gov.

Very truly yours,

Justice Shelvin Louise Marie Hall
Chair, IJC Scholarship Committee
